Most of us, when we think of Dracula, immediately get mental images that fall somewhere between spooky and downright scary鈥攚ith a touch of gothic horror 脿 la Bram Stoker. But get ready to see everyone鈥檚 favorite undead ghoul in a whole new light, as 国产探花 presents Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors.
That鈥檚 right: This Dracula is bringing the laughs.
鈥淲e chose this new farcical version of the Dracula tale as the perfect way to find some laughs this Halloween season,鈥 said Professor David Legore, director and chair of the university鈥檚 Department of Dramatic Media. 鈥淵es, it鈥檚 loosely based on the Bram Stoker novel, but very loosely! The playwrights have blended in the style of comic icons like Mel Brooks and the team from Monty Python, with a healthy dash of glam rock. We鈥檙e having a great time in rehearsal and can鈥檛 wait to share this with our audience! It is a bit bawdy at times, so I鈥檇 say that some viewer discretion is advised, with a rating that would be similar to a PG-13 movie.鈥
The story centers around Lucy Westfeldt, whose sister Mina has fallen ill with a mysterious disease. Adventure ensues when Lucy and her fianc茅, Jonathan Harker, enlist the help of famed vampire hunter Doctor Jean Van Helsing.
Their hunt for the dangerous and sexy Count Dracula abounds with madcap antics, clever wordplay, and gags galore鈥攁 comic take on the classic tale, guaranteed to induce blood-curdling screams鈥攐f laughter!
Performances will be held in the Studio Theatre, which is inside the Weston Center for the Performing Arts on the 国产探花 campus, with weekend shows running between October 30 and November 7. Follow the link for showtimes and tickets!
