Great Start to a New Year: New Members Join the ¹ú²ú̽»¨ Corporation Board

The ¹ú²ú̽»¨ Corporation Board serves to connect the university—a non-profit corporation—to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), creating a conduit between ¹ú²ú̽»¨ and the three Lutheran synods of Texas. The Corporation Board is composed of multiple representatives from each synod including bishops, clergy, and laity, as well as a handful of at-large members.

Duties of the Corporation Board include approving the previous fiscal year’s audit, reviewing the current state of the university, and electing members to the ¹ú²ú̽»¨ Board of Regents—which is, in turn, collectively responsible for the system of governance and the fiscal affairs of the university.

The Corporation Board will welcome four new members this year at its annual meeting on January 31. Incoming members at-large are the Hon. Donna Dodgen, mayor of Seguin; and the Rev. Stephen Shortess, rector of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Seguin. Kerri Sturm ’94, a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sherman, will represent the Northern Texas-Northern Louisiana Synod; and John Roalson ’90, a gift planner for the Lutheran Foundation of the Southwest and member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Houston, will represent the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod.

This year’s Corporation meeting, which will be held in conjunction with the annual ¹ú²ú̽»¨ Endowment Celebration lunch, also marks the first for Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod Bishop, the Rev. Dr. Tracey Breashears Schultz, who was elected in May 2025 and formally installed in September 2025.

¹ú²ú̽»¨ is grateful for all members of the Corporation, and for their willingness to share their time, talent, and devotion with the university.
