Peer Mentors
Peer Mentors assist first year students during Bulldog Orientation in August and throughout their first year with their personal and academic transition into the ¹ú²ú̽»¨ community.
Why I Chose to be a Peer Mentor:

At first my decision came from the joy I had during my time in FREX, but over time I realized that this wasn't the only or main reason. Throughout my few years of life, I only felt that "homey feeling" when I was at school. My teachers felt like the ones raising me. Helping me to grow and understanding parts of me that weren't allowed to exist at home. I built my family off those who saw my flaws and mistakes and helped me get through them. And that's what I'm excited for coming into this opportunity. To give students a space where they can feel as all of themselves can be heard. To have a place to be excited about going when things feel tuff. Or even if it's not in our FREX class, that somewhere on this campus, all of them are welcome.

As a second-year peer mentor, I truly enjoyed how my students pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped open new doors of opportunity in my personal and professional growth. It was incredibly rewarding to know they could count on me, and in return, they brought out so much joy and a variety of personalities that made the experience unforgettable.

What I enjoy most about my role as a peer mentor is watching-my students come in scared , anxious, even happy, and full of nerves. Entering college and into my Frex as a caterpillar and leaving the semester sprouting into a beautiful butterfly!
Overall, my joy comes from teaching and engaging with my incoming students and watch them achieve their goals, aspirations, obstacles, and barriers. With holding this job, comes with many responsibilities and I highlighted one.
The one that truly speaks out to me which is everyone has their own story, and you have a role within that story. My role as a peer mentor, friend, and mentor is to help, achieve and push my students to their greatest potential!
