Latinx Heritage Month
Latinx Heritage Month (September 15 鈥 October 15) is a time to recognize and reflect on the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of Latinos/as in the United States. It鈥檚 an opportunity to celebrate the diversity within Latino/a communities and honor the many ways they continue to shape our society.
The month begins on September 15 to coincide with the independence anniversaries of several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. M茅xico鈥檚 independence day follows on September 16, with Chile鈥檚 on September 18. What began as a week-long celebration in 1968 was expanded to a month in 1988, acknowledging the growing influence and impact of Latino/a communities across the nation.
