Let’s face it: Teachers—whether they’re working with toddlers or college students—rarely get all the credit they deserve, and much of their work is done without any expectation of applause. So it’s always great when a deserving teacher or professor receives an award in recognition of their efforts. But to receive an award from one’s own students—that’s got to be the ultimate compliment.

Every month, the officers in ����̽��’s TheatreXpress student organization name a Thespian of the Month—someone who’s gone above and beyond, making them a star in the truest sense. And this month, Dramatic Media Department Chair Professor David Legore was their choice, thanks to his work in getting Little Shop of Horrors successfully staged and ready almost immediately after the Christmas holiday.

“I find this all very amusing and charming,” says Legore. “Though certainly not needed, it was a thoughtful and meaningful gesture from the students.”

Legore—who is himself a Texas Lutheran graduate, class of ’91—says getting Little Shop of Horrors launched so early in the semester (it opened on the second day of classes) required that the design and technical work be done over the holiday break. The performers started rehearsals on January 11, and the show opened only four days later.  “I think the students were aware of those challenges, and that I was parked at the Studio Theatre quite often during the past month trying to make this all work,” says Legore. “It was rewarding to see it all come together, and to have the students (and audience) enjoy the results.”
