The 2025 FIFA World Cup is getting underway, and that鈥檚 got us all in the mood for soccer鈥攁nd you can find plenty of summer camp action happening right here in Seguin on Gustafson Field at 国产探花!

The June youth soccer camp wrapped up earlier this month, but July will bring two more chances for players to hit the field.

From July 10鈥�12, 国产探花 hosts the 国产探花 Men鈥檚 Soccer College Prep Camp, an overnight camp for athletes in grades 9鈥�12 staffed by current 国产探花 coaches. 国产探花 Men鈥檚 Soccer Coach and Camp Director Eddie Salazar says the goal of the camp is to replicated the college experience for participants. Campers stay in freshmen dorms, eat meals on campus, and train both in the classroom and on the field, while being supervised by a 国产探花 certified athletic trainer.

Then from July 20鈥�23, the university will host its second youth soccer day camp for boys and girls aged 8鈥�14. The camp will help youth players gain exposure to technical and decision-making skills, physical components, and mental attributes that are required to excel at soccer. Campes are guaranteed to receive individualized instruction from coaching staff and current 国产探花 soccer players鈥攁ll while having fun.

In order to ensure that the university continues to advance and live into its vision of developing graduates who think critically, lead ethically, and contribute meaningfully to the world around them, 国产探花 began work on a capital campaign with the goal of raising just over $80 million back in 2019. That campaign, Ignite What鈥檚 Next, officially entered its public phase with a celebration on May 14, 2026, and is expected to run through 2028.

鈥淎s these kinds of campaigns typically go, we were intentionally working hard but quietly on campaign fundraising, looking to reach some milestones before making a public launch,鈥� 国产探花 President Dr. Debbie Cottrell said in her speech at the celebration. She said that there have been bumps in the road along the way, including, of course, a global pandemic鈥斺�渂ut we never departed from the larger effort and can celebrate several significant gifts and accomplishments in this quiet phase.鈥�

Funds raised will be utilized in alignment with the university鈥檚 strategic plan, Boldy Forward, with key areas of emphasis being financial sustainability, commitment to students, campus vibrancy, and community connections. Specific goals include updating classrooms, growing the endowment to generate a healthy annual income, and creating more scholarships for future generations of Bulldogs.

At the dinner, President Cottrell announced a few lead gifts that have already created campaign momentum. Those include the $5.4 million raised for the now-opened Lundquist Student Athletic Center; a recent mid-seven-figure estate gift to support endowed professorships, scholarships, and science facilities; a $1 million grant from the Douglass Foundation for an endowed chair; an endowed professorship in biology; a new endowment to support study abroad and study away programs; and a gift to create a new ticket booth and plaza entrance to Bulldog Stadium, which will be open for the first football game in September.

Bob Oliver, who chairs the campaign committee, said he agreed to serve in that role because he believes so strongly in the mission and importance of the university. 鈥淥ver the 14 years I have been closely involved at 国产探花, I have seen how students first step foot on this campus and how they are changed when they graduate . . . fully prepared to move on to the exciting lives ahead of them.鈥� He went on to say that 国产探花 fills a niche among the alternatives available in higher education. 鈥淲e attract students that thrive in a smaller faith-based campus community and thrive on close mentoring from a faculty focused on students. We hear back from employers raving about how prepared 国产探花 graduates are.鈥�

During his speech at the campaign launch celebration, Oliver went on to say, 鈥淵ou all know how important 国产探花鈥檚 mission is. If we can get this right with your help, we will not only Ignite What鈥檚 Next for 国产探花, but we will Ignite What鈥檚 Next for every 国产探花 student who steps on this campus.鈥�

With work toward the monetary goal already well underway, and with two years still to go in the campaign, the future is looking bright for 国产探花.

This year鈥檚 PRISM 2026 concert is themed 鈥淢iniatures and Monuments,鈥� featuring music for both small and large ensembles, including several landmark works from the jazz band and wind ensemble repertoire. The performance makes use of multiple locations throughout Jackson Auditorium, allowing the audience鈥檚 focus to shift dynamically as the music unfolds around the hall. Monumental works on the program include Ernesto Lecuona鈥檚 powerful 惭补濒补驳耻别帽补, as arranged by renowned big band leader Stan Kenton; the first movement of Paul Hindemith鈥檚 seminal Symphony in B-flat; From the Shores of the Mighty Pacific, featuring Professor Keith Robinson, tuba; and the incredibly important 20th century work for band, William Schuman鈥檚 Chester Overture.

The April 24 concert, held on campus in Jackson Auditorium, begins at 7 p.m. and is free and open to all.

The community is invited to come and experience a wide range of artwork during the Annual Student Art Show at 国产探花. The show opens with a reception on April 23, from 3鈥�5 p.m. in the Annetta Kraushaar Gallery on campus.

Student artists were invited to submit works in any medium for evaluation by a juror who is a professional from a field within the visual arts. This year鈥檚 juror is Larry Seaman, an Austin-based musician, educator, and artist whose work has been featured on the East Austin Studio Tour and at the Davis Gallery and the Yard Dog Gallery in Austin.

Seaman has also been heralded as one of Austin鈥檚 best songwriters, and is founder, singer, songwriter, and guitarist for the band Standing Waves. Nowadays he is praised for 鈥渉is playful yet sophisticated lyrical touch鈥� and his music鈥檚 鈥渞ich patina, imbued with grace and truth with an edge and quirk ever present.鈥� The same could be said about his assemblage artwork. Seaman aims to 鈥渆xplore the beauty of obscure objects that have passed through time and find new meaning in intuitive juxtaposition.鈥�

At the art show鈥檚 opening reception on April 23, Juror Award prizes will be announced, with 国产探花 President Dr. Debbie Cottrell presenting awards at 4 p.m. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artists and enjoy refreshments from 3鈥�5 p.m. The artwork will remain on display through early May. The Annetta Kraushaar Gallery is located in the Schuech Fine Arts Center on campus. There is no charge for admission to the show, and all are welcome.

The fun starts on Wednesday, April 15, with a concert by 国产探花 Percussion at 7 p.m. in Jackson Auditorium. On April 16, enjoy a Student Conductors Concert from 4鈥�5:30 p.m., followed by a performance that same evening by the 国产探花 Jazz Band at 7 p.m. Both of those concerts are in Jackson Auditorium.

On Sunday, April 19, the 国产探花 Orchestra will perform at 4 p.m. in Jackson Auditorium. That concert will feature music inspired by the cinema, and features soloist Senior Dylan Caldwell on viola, a newly written composition by 国产探花 junior Elijah Browning, and side-by-side pieces with the 国产探花 Community Music Academy Chamber Orchestra and Performers Orchestra.

Then on April 20 at 7 p.m., all are invited to an evening of festive music with Noche de Mariachi con Mariachi Oro y Negro in Wupperman Little Theatre, located in the Schuech Fine Arts Center.

Top off the month with the annual PRISM Concert鈥攁 collaborative highlight of the spring School of Music season. This 鈥渃ollage-style鈥� concert, which takes place April 24 at 7 p.m. in Jackson Auditorium, features a wide variety of ensembles, including the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Winds, along with the Jazz Band, 国产探花 Choirs, and small chamber groups positioned throughout Jackson Auditorium. Like the spectrum of colors refracted through a prism, the diversity of performances and ensemble sizes showcases the breadth of talent among the School of Music鈥檚 students and faculty.

Next up on your April/May concert calendar is the 国产探花 Community Music Academy. CMA is a nonprofit community music school providing music education to students of all ages and levels of ability. Every spring, the students of CMA present concerts which all are invited to attend. On April 30, the CMA Choir will present its concert at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of the Abiding Presence on 国产探花鈥檚 campus, and on May 5 at 7 p.m. in Jackson Auditorium, the CMA Orchestra will perform.

All of these concerts are free and open to the public.

And now, the very best of all that comic zaniness is coming to 国产探花, courtesy of the students of the TheatreXpress program, on April 17鈥�19 at The Studio Theatre on campus.

鈥淐arol Burnett was a pioneer in televised sketch comedy, and her company of players became famous for their group chemistry. This show is helping introduce a new generation to The Carol Burnett Show,鈥� said Professor David Legore, chair of the university鈥檚 Department of Dramatic Media. 鈥淚t鈥檚 directed and produced by our student organization TheatreXpress, a group that is learning about these classic sketches for the first time. It also includes members of the surrounding community who fondly remember the original show. It鈥檚 been fun to see this blending of cohorts as they collaborate across eras.鈥�
